Rob Machado at Seaside Reef on the XTRA CADO | Raw Sessions

Written by Tony Samaripa

Rob Machado takes his stock 6'8" XTRA CADO in Helium Technology for a session at his home break, Seaside Reef in Cardiff, California, showing just how versatile his midlength design can be when the waves turn on.

While the XTRA CADO was designed to make the most of smaller, softer days, its performance doesn't stop there. With plenty of glide and a responsive rail, Rob shows how the shape can draw long, flowing lines, carry speed through sections, and fit tight turns into the pocket when there's a little more energy in the water.

“I have this real attraction to boards in this midlength realm. It's not a longboard and it's not a shortboard. It's somewhere in between. It's for the days when you don't feel like trying as hard as other days, or when the waves just don't give you the green light to try and rip. Maybe you just want to glide into a few waves and draw out a couple longer turns, and maybe that's all it is, for simplifying the day.” — Rob Machado

Rob is riding a stock 6'8" x 21" x 2 1/2" XTRA CADO at 39.3L, paired with his Machado Seaside Quad Fin Set.

MORE ON THE SHAPE

Rob started with his best-selling Machadocado, and stretched out the outline to its midlength form, which made it much straighter creating a really glidey and floaty shape that’s easy to ride. He pulled down the rail from the domed deck giving the shape plenty of performance, and double concave with see running down the middle, making the board really user-friendly and easy to ride. The wide squash is super thinly foiled, just like Rob’s Machadocado. This design is really responsive rail-to-rail, great for long drawn-out turns, but also whips really tight in the pocket and in tight places on the wave face.

The Xtra Cado is built with 5 fin boxes for unlimited fin configuration options. You can ride it as a Quad in some bigger surf, as a Twin in some small surf, or as a Thruster when you wanna rip. Or ride it with no fins at all...who cares? As long as you are having fun." Rob's been riding his stock 6'8" Xtra Cado with his Machado Seaside Quad Fin Set, and other team riders have been enjoying this shape with his Machado 2 + 1 Fin Set.
