California Firefighter Summer Games with Kevin Schulz
Press play for a quick recap of the 2025 California Firefighter Summer Games surfing event, put on by Orange County Fire Authority firefighter and Firewire Surfboards & Slater Designs rider, Kevin Schulz.
Kevin puts on this contest through the greater California Firefighter Summer Games out of passion - roughly 70 competitors across 10 divisions, including participating firefighter surf clubs from up and down the coast. While this year's contest might not have had the most pristine conditions, the boys exercised their small-wave precision and had a blast regardless.
The Firefighter Summer Games began in 1972 as an opportunity for all California firefighters to get together in friendly competition which promotes physical fitness and provides and informal forum for exchanging of ideas. The surfing event has been held since 1983. Learn more about the games here.

This year San Diego was the host of the California Firefighter Summer Games, with the surfing event held in South County at the Ocean Beach Pier. The crew was set up on the beach early, and ran heats into the afternoon.

With conditions leaving much to be desired, the crew was pumped that Firewire Surfboards & Slater Designs team rider, Kevin Schulz, brought a bunch of Machadocados for firefighters to ride in their heats.

Event organizer and Overlord Kevin Schulz getting the lowdown on the last heat's action.

Not the biggest swell Ocean Beach has ever seen, nor the most pristine conditions, but once again the Machadocado proves there's no wave too small to rip.
You might see these guys around town looking after your community, enjoying a well deserved day on the beach this past June.

We're proud to support the California Firefighter Summer Games, Orange County Fire Authority, and a huge thank you to all of the first responders who have our backs every day.
